Wind Power Plan for Barbados

A number of companies with local and foreign interests are exploring the possibility of meeting some of Barbados’ electricity needs at a lower cost, through wind energy.

They have already approached the Barbados Light & Power Company Limited (BL&P) which is sold on the idea, even as its larger proposed wind turbine project at Lamberts, St Lucy, remains in limbo.

Although not divulging the identity of the entities, BL&P chief marketing manager Stephen Worme said the power company had been approached by organisations “that have a local component with foreign interests” about the possibility of their putting up wind turbines at three or four locations  and feeding the power back  to the grid.

“They are going through a process of seeking approval from Town and Country Planning and also looking at the overall viability of the project from their point of view,” he said in an interview with the DAILY NATION yesterday. (DP)
