US Expert Praises Cuba’s Use of Renewable Energy

HAVANA, Cuba, Apr 8 (acn) Joan Marie, a US expert participating at the 9th International
Workshop Cubasolar 2010, which wraps up today, praised the work Cuba has developed on
renewable energy.

The expert described the experiences her Cuban counterparts are relating in the event, as a “beautiful example” that greatly inspires her and pointed out the difficulties Cuba faces in that field due to the US blockade.

Marie expressed her hopes that this 50-year old policy will be terminated soon, as US citizens from different sectors of that society demand.

Cuba has implemented energy saving plans during the last years. At the same time it has carried out extensive research to change from the traditional burning of fossil oils to renewable energy projects, like solar panels and windmills.

Cubasolar 2010 opened last Monday in Bayamo city, 747 kilometers east of Havana, with the attendance of some 200 delegates Argentina, Mexico, Nicaragua, Peru, the United States, Canada, Germany, Spain, Italy and the host country.

The main topics are renewable energy sources, environment and sustainable development, among others.
