Trinidad & Tobago, China discuss LNG, CNG, and renewable energy

Energy Minister Kevin Ramnarine meets, from right, Zhang Yuqing, Deputy Head, National Energy Administration, His Excellency Huang Xingyuan Chinese Ambassador to Trinidad and Tobago and Yang Lei, Deputy Director-General at the National Energy Administration.

“Minister of Energy and Energy Affairs, Senator the Honourable Kevin Ramnarine engaged senior Chinese officials in discussions on establishing direct trade of liquified natural gas (LNG) (between) China (and) Trinidad and Tobago, and other energy-related matters beneficial to Trinidad and Tobago last week,” a release from the ministry said yesterday.

During his meeting with Deputy Head of National Energy Administration Zhang Yuqing, and other officials from the Republic of China, Minister Ramnarine followed up on matters raised during the recent visit of Chinese President Xi Jinping to Trinidad and Tobago in an effort to promote bilateral relations between both countries. Minister Ramnarine noted that China’s advanced technology in compressed natural gas (CNG) and renewable energy could be of benefit to Trinidad and Tobago.

Dialogue also centred on possible partnerships and investment in both the upstream and the downstream sectors. The People’s Republic of China imports asphalt from Lake Asphalt of Trinidad and Tobago (LATT).

These discussions will set the groundwork for the upcoming State visit headed by Prime Minister the Honourable Kamla Persad-Bissessar to the People’s Republic of China later in 2013, the release said.
