Thrust in renewable energy at the UWI in Barbados

The Cave Hill Campus of the University of the West Indies (UWI) will change the name of the Faculty of Pure Applied Science to the Faculty of Science of Technology, as part of the university’s thurst to promote renewable forms of energy.

Speaking at the opening of the Caribbean Green Economy Forum at the Almond Beach Resort, Deputy Principal of the UWI Cave Hill Campus, Proffessor Eudine Barriteau, said the name change will take effect from August 1, and the campus will begin to offer two new undergraduate courses, Renewable Energy Resources and the Fundamental of PV  Physics. In September the UWI will introduce a Masters Programme in Renewable Energy Management.

Proffessor Barriteau said the definition of a green economy as put forward by the United  Nations Environment Programme (UNEP),  is in keeping with the philosophy of the UWI, as it moves to implement its 2012 to 2017 strategic plan.
