The IDB, Brazil, the U.S. announce funding for studies on bio-energy

The National Energy Commission (CNE) and the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) today signed Technical Cooperation to conduct studies on bio-energy, (BioE), with the participation of the governments of Brazil and the United States via international cooperation on bio-fuels.

In addition to the studies on BioE, the US$937,500 project includes sustainability of agricultural projects in the various stages, on which the CNE will decide where they’ll be implemented.

“For that it will be necessary to compile data on Dominican Republic’s economy, stressing the country’s competitive advantages in the agro sector. Related governmental strategies on agriculture and the harvest and industrialization of sugar cane will also be described and commented on,” said CNE president  Enrique Ramirez.

He said five modules will be analyzed to discuss to plan the government’s action to promote the internal ethanol market and define the region to establish the possible projects.

For his part, Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) representative Manuel Labrado, after signing the agreement, said the country’s macroeconomic situation, as well as the social and political stability will be discussed base on indices and their tendencies, to evaluate their impact throughout the course of the project lifespan. “The analyses conducted will show the current advantages in the country and will indicate possible measures as to the possible difficulties found.”
