Solar lighting for Sando Waterfront

San Fernando Mayor Navi Muradali is calling for solar and wind powered lighting along the San Fernando Waterfront which is currently being developed.

Muradali, chairman of the Green Expo committee says the renewable power was one way to conserve energy.

The Green Expo will be launched today at Skinner Park, San Fernando.

In a release Muradali stated, “The time has come for us to go off-grid regarding our street lighting and I do expect that we will have solar and wind lighting along our City’s Waterfront.”

Mayor Muradali urged citizens to consider the greenhouse effect and get involved in the fight against global warming and climate change.

He said the San Fernando City Corporation expects that building materials and products showcased at the Green Expo can be incorporated into the ongoing San Fernando Waterfront Development.

He stated, “The SanCity Green Expo this year has been organised so that the public, including school children, can be exposed yet again to the things they can do and the products they can use to help reduce green-house gases and mitigate against the real threat of global warming and climate change. We have invited all schools in the City of San Fernando to attend, and also welcome all of Trinidad and Tobago to participate.”

The Expo will feature several exhibitors showcasing eco-friendly goods and services. It will provide daily entertainment and activities such as nightly shows and movies, mini-golf, pony rides, a wildlife exhibit and a kids zone.

The committee is asking visitors to donate at least one can of food upon entry in support of the Corporation’s “Help the City, Help the Homeless” initiative.

The SanCity Green Expo runs from today to Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.
