Winners:Kara and Kemba Hughes

Winners:Kara and Kemba Hughes

Ms. Kara and Kemba Hughes emerged victorious in the recently held Sagicor Science Challenge that was conducted in Anguilla on April 5th, 2013,  at the Teacher Resource Center Auditorium.  With the Science Project in titled Alternative Energy Revolutionized, the Hughes sisters demonstrated how solar energy, combined with fuel cells can be used to help reduce our reliance on fossil fuels.  The winning team will travel to Barbados to participate in the regional Sagicor Science Challenge that will be held on the 12th of April 2013.

The second placed project, entitled Scraps to packs, recycled paper and used it to produce a product that can actually be used.  The third place project entitled, the Greener Alternative, demonstrated how solar energy can be used to power devices.  Two of the remaining projects used solar energy to power devices or use it to drive a process.  Water Activated Energy, W.A.E, took a unique slant to energy provision.  It attempted to utilize the power of the waves to generate electricity. The seventh project utilized heat reflective paint to reduce house temperatures, hence reducing the electricity bills for cooling.

The Sagicor Science challenge would not have been possible without the kindness of Cap Juluca Hotel, NAPA auto Parts and ANGLEC.  The students and the organizing committee would like to express their gratitude for the assistance.  The efforts of the students and the judges are greatly appreciated by the organizing committee, for without them the competition would not be possible.
