Description: 

The Water Center for Latin America and the Caribbean (www.centrodelagua.org) at Monterrey Tech (www.itesm.edu) and the Monterrey Tech’s new Area of Excellent in Water Sustainability invite outstanding experts to submit an application for a Research Professor in Water and Energy Nexus.

 

The Water Center for Latin America and the Caribbean has a research and consulting focus ranging from hydrology, water quality and treatment, to integrated water resources management. The new research chair is focused on the nexus between water and energy.

 

We are interested in experts on the intertwined relationship between energy and water supply, with particular emphasis on power generation, energy efficiency and renewable energy. The candidate’s research is expected to complement existing ongoing Water Center research and consultancy activities.

 

Potential areas of research and innovation may include understanding and mitigating the impacts of unconventional fossil fuel extraction on water resources, conjunctive use of traditional and alternative energy sources and associated water demands, and novel applications for more sustainable water-building-environment interactions.

 

The appointment is full time or a joint appointment. Full-time pplicants for this position will be required to teach two courses at the undergraduate or graduate level, advice graduate thesis (master and PhD), develop research and consultancy for funding agencies, government and companies, publish in indexed peer-reviewed journals, as well as participate in capacity building programs, curricular development and university services.

 

A PhD in civil or environmental engineering or a related discipline (e.g., chemical or mechanical engineering) is required. The candidate demonstrates a strong coursework and work experience in evaluation of energy efficiencies in water services or development of novel approaches and technologies for water saving energy supplies. She/he has excellent written and oral communication skills in Spanish and English. She/he offers interpersonal skills that promote interaction in a multidisciplinary context. She/he shows the ability to work in a multi-cultural setting and create an environment that fosters collegiality and teamwork.
