Progress of the project: Latin America and the Caribbean Renewable Energy Observatory

The Latin American Energy Organization (OLADE), with the support of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) has undertaken the project know as “Latin America and the Caribbean Renewable Energy Observatory.” The purpose of this project is to promote renewable energy in the following countries in the region: Mexico, Brazil, Ecuador, Colombia, Paraguay, Uruguay, Dominican Republic and Costa Rica, by gathering information on each country’s different energy technologies, the state art of each of them and the different financing mechanisms. The purpose of this project is to develop an information base on renewable energy.

As a result of the success of this initiative is expected to develop a second phase extending the project to four additional countries in the region: Cuba, Chile, Nicaragua and Peru. The goals of this initiative are to increase access of the different stakeholders and agents involved in the energy sector in each country to information and knowledge based on the Latin American and the Caribbean experience regarding the current situation and development of renewable energy projects. The second objective, which is closely related to the first one is to facilitate and foster a substantial increase in renewables investment.
