Net billing – game changer for Jamaica’s renewable energy sector

Plans for the liberalisation of  Jamaica’s energy sector will move one step further today with the issuing of  the first set of  licences for net billing.

Net billing is a provision under the licence renegotiated with the Jamaica Public Service Company, JPS.

It allows small producers of  electricity, who are JPS customers, to sell excess energy to the grid.

This is if  they own renewable energy generators such as wind turbines and solar systems to generate electricity for personal use.

The net billing licences will be issued this morning at a meeting of  the Jamaica Energy Council at Jamaica House.

Minister of Science, Technology, Energy and Mining Phillip Paulwell, is urging individuals and companies to exploit investment opportunities in new and renewable energies
