Latin America and the Caribbean Must Go For Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency

According to the Latin American Energy Organization (OLADE), energy efficiency must be understood as a profitable resource, from an economic standpoint, as well as a decisive contribution to improving the welfare of populations and commit to the care of the environment.

Recently, the Senate of the United States of America, approved an investment of over $ 2 billion USD to implement energy efficiency programs and renewable energy in this country, based on the benefits to taxpayers by reducing power outages. This is an example for the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean to start considering to incorporate energy efficiency into their macroeconomics and development plans.

Hence, the importance of promoting opportunities for dialogue and cooperation to carry out actions and strategies for developing this resource as the II Latin American and Caribbean Seminar on Energy Efficiency, to be held in the city of La Habana, Cuba, on October 27, 2009.

This event aims to present successful experiences in various aspects, both normative and structural, which ensure the success of energy efficiency programs, to identify efficient technologies that can be applied in Member Countries of OLADE and spreading the benefits of energy efficiency among all stakeholders in the energy sector in Latin America and the Caribbean, to stimulate the development of this clean resource.
