JPS to sign power purchase agreements with renewable energy firms

The Jamaica Public Service Company (JPS) will sign three agreements for the purchase of  electricity from renewable energy on Thursday morning. The power purchase agreements will be signed with BMR Jamaica Wind, Wigton Wind Farm and WRB Enterprises.
The Office of Utilities Regulation earlier this year granted permission to the entities to develop renewable energy power plants – two wind farms and one solar energy plant. Combined, they will add 78 megawatts of electricity to the national grid.
After signing the power purchase agreements with the JPS, the three companies will receive operating licences from the Energy Minister.
