Government not moving quickly on renewable energy

A group of local business people is moving to increase the use of renewable energy in Barbados, but it laments government is not moving speedily enough on the issue.

The  Barbados Renewable Energy Association made the comments ahead of a seminar on a renewable energy planned for next Tuesday at the University of the West Indies, Cave Hill campus.

Executive director, Clyde Griffith, says after several attempts to engage government, the organisation is making its first effort to educate the public about renewable energy.

This effort forms part of the organisation’s 18-month action plan.

Lisa Cummins, executive director of the Barbados Coalition of Service Industries, of which the BREA is a member, says there is a role for both the private and public sector in promoting renewable energy use.
