Goldwind to supply turbines for 215MW Panama power project

Goldwind USA, a subsidiary of Xinjiang Goldwind Science & Technology, has secured a contract from InterEnergy to provide turbines for the 215MW Penonomé power project in Panama.

Under the contract, Goldwind will supply 86 of its 2.5MW Permanent Magnet Direct-Drive (PMDD) turbines for the project, which is located in Coclé Province.

The contract also requires Goldwind to provide a long-term maintenance program.

Goldwind said its PMDD turbine provides low-cost wind power generation over the life of the project.

InterEnergy chairman and chief executive officer Rolando Gonzalez Bunster said the development will be the company’s largest investment in a renewable energy project to date, and will most certainly be an industry reference not only in Panama but in the entire region, for its size and importance.

“The partnership with Goldwind will be key to the success of this endeavor,” Bunster added.

InterEnergy owns and operates power generation and distribution assets in Latin America and the Caribbean.

The World Bank’s International Finance Corporation acquired a minority equity interest in InterEnergy through a $100m direct cash investment in February 2013.
