Wind Turbine Powers Dominica’s New Resort

The Rosalie Bay Resort, a new eco-friendly resort in Dominica, will also be home to one of the island’s first wind turbine to power a local resort.

The turbine, which began generating electricity on June 7, is slated to be at full strength by Rosalie’s Aug. 1 grand opening. The resort plans use almost all green energy: Wind power is expected to account for roughly 70 percent of the resort’s electricity, with rooftop solar panels making up the difference.

The new resort consists of 28 rooms in nine cottages on 22 acres of tropical jungle and beach on Dominica’s southeast coast.

According to the resort’s website-– “Energy is generated from solar panels and a 225 kW wind turbine, which is [one of the] the first wind turbine on Dominica [for resorts] and the largest in the Leeward Islands of the Caribbean. In fact, Rosalie Bay is one of only a handful of Caribbean resorts with its own wind turbine.”
