First renewable energy project to generate electricity for PowerGen

Minister of Energy and Energy Affairs, Kevin Ramnarine will launch the installation of Renewable Energy Technologies at the Islamic Home for Children at Rahaman Drive, Bonne Aventure in Gasparillo.

The launch is described as a historic landmark project for Trinidad and Tobago as electricity generated from the solar panels and a wind turbine at the home will be tied to the national electricity grid.

According to the Ministry, PowerGen, on behalf of the Ministry, commissioned and installed the technology to the facility.

A library will also be formally opened on Friday by Ramnarine.

In light of the fact that 2102 has been declared “The Year of Sustainable Energy for All” by the United Nations, the Ministry said this project represents a significant step towards reducing fossil-fuel consumption and further energy efficiency as a major part of diversification of the Energy sector and increased Energy Security.
