ELEC 2012- Second Latin American and Caribbean Electricity Seminar

Organized by the Latin American Energy Organization (OLADE) and the Costa Rican Ministry of the Environment, Energy and Telecommunications (MINAET), the Second Latin American and Caribbean Electricity Seminar will focus on two topics: progress and potential in the deployment of “smart grids” technology in LAC; and the status and prospects in LAC for distributed generation from renewable sources such as hydro, wind, solar, biomass waste, and their impacts on distribution networks and the environment. ELEC 2012 will also discuss case studies of national and sub-regional grid interconnection.

To learn about the technological advances, particularly in “Smart Grids” and distributed generation, using renewable resources, as well as regional experiences of electrical interconnection.

  • To provide successful experiences in the production of electricity using distributed generation from renewable resources such as hydro, wind, solar and biomass residues, and its impact on distribution networks and the environment.
  • To disseminate specific cases of energy integration through electrical interconnection between national and sub-regional systems, increasing reliability and power supply to the national networks.
  • To analyze the technology progress on “Smart Grids” in the world and its application in LAC, to optimize the supply of electricity to the population
  • To assess the current situation and outlook for optimization of programs and improvement in the production and distribution of electricity in the countries of the region considering the increase in renewable energy generation, distributed generation and Smart Grids technology.
