A group of Dominica’s development partners will be coming to Dominica near the end of the month for talks on the country’s geothermal energy project.

The group heading to Roseau is slated to include officials from the Agence Francaise de Developpement, the World Bank, the European Union, China, Venezuela and Japan, among others.

They will discuss the financing of the planned small power plant to supply electricity to the local market. As has been proposed in the past, the possibility of supplying electricity to neighbouring Martinique and Guadeloupe will also be discussed.

“At this point, I can say with confidence that a much lower electricity rate is no longer a dream but is shaping to become a reality,” said Minister Ambrose George.

Dominica has spent $35 million on developing the geothermal project, according to government data.
