DCNS showcase in Caribbean

DCNS is to showcase its up to 6MW onshore Ocean Thermal Energy Conversion concept at the Caribbean Renewable Energy Forum on the island of Aruba.

OTEC uses the temperature difference between the cold water and the warm surface water in tropical seas to generate electricity.

Up until now, the concept featured a floating system positioned a few kilometres from the shore.

The new onshore concept (pictured) will have a capacity of 3MW to 6MW and DCNS described the Caribbean region as “extremely favourable for OTEC”.

DCNS has been operating a small-scale, land-based prototype on La Réunion Island since 2011.
