Cuba Prioritizes Use of Renewable Energy Sources

Authorities of the western Cuban province of Matanzas revealed a strategy until 2016 intent on boosting the use of renewable energy sources, according to a study published here.

In this program, adds the report, one of the measures highlighted is the use of biogas to substitute and generate electricity using forest biomass.

The construction of two biofuel plants is planned with a total production capacity of two thousand liters, indicated the source.

Gasifiers will be installed in Matanzas territory to process waste in rice drying facilities with generating equipment of 40 and 20 kilowatts.

Another measure will be the setting up of over 140 windmills with which they hope to substitute the pumping of water with electric current and the distribution of liquid through tank trucks in faraway towns.
