Cuba Prioritizes Change of Energetic Matrix

Cuban government prioritizes the change of the energy matrix to promote the efficient use of energy and the development of renewable sources.

Director of National Strategy and Policy of the Ministry of Energy and Mines (Minem) in Cuba, Leandro Matos, stated that among the objectives of this policy is to reduce the dependence on import fuel and reduce costs.

The strategy is part of the update process of the economic model in which the country is immersed, stated Matos during the second day of the Forum of Business Cuba-United Kingdom taking place here.

Meanwhile, the director of renewable energy of Minem, Rosell Guerra, stressed that in 2013 they initiated a major investor programme.

That year the seven first photovoltaic solar parks were concluded, as well as six small hydroelectric power stations, the first plant of 500 kilowatts of forest biomass, three biogas plants to produce electricity and heat and the construction of the first wind farm of 51 megawatts began, he said.
