Gibara Wind Farm I, Holguin Cuba

Works for the assembly of Cuba’s fourth wind farm began in Punta Rasa, a coastal site in the municipality of Gibara, in Holguin province. The six Goldwind S-50 machines in the new unit will have a generating capacity of 4.5 megawatts, said Luis San Juan, executive of the National the Renewable Energy Group. With this new farm, the power generation capacity in the municipality of Gibara will rise to 9.6 megawatts, thus becoming the country’s capital in the generation of renewable and non pollutant sources.

All the required equipment is already stored here, the source added.

The Gibara II must start operating this year thanks to the experience reached by the construction company in the first wind farm built here last 2008.

Cuba has fostered clean power generation by way of improving environment protection through the use of renewable sources as the wind and the sun rays.

Some eight areas are so far suitable for wind power generation in eastern Cuba out the 30 ones already found in the whole country.
