Consultants to be recruited for Suriname renewable energy program

The Suriname Ministry of Natural Resources plans to recruit consultants to help develop renewable energy for the South American nation, which includes hydropower among its renewable energy resources.

The Suriname government has received a US$400,000 technical cooperation grant from the Inter-American Development Bank for support of a renewable energy and bio-energy project. The program is to ensure sustainable development of Suriname’s hinterlands, providing alternatives to fossil fuels.

The ministry plans to invite expressions of interest from consultants to support the government in determining potential sites for development of commercial renewable energy projects. Consultants also would explore and support alternatives for the use of renewable energy for the development of the hinterlands. Additionally, consultants would provide technical assistance in preparation of a bio-energy program for Suriname.

Procurement notices are to be published as they become available. For information, contact Project Manager Michael J. Kopinsky, Renewable Energy Project, Sustainable Technical Solutions N.V., Fresolaan 2, Paramaribo, Suriname; (597) 440-144; Mobile: (597) 861-5111; E-mail: m.j.kopinsky@suteso.com.
