CIBC’S VICE CHAIRMAN TO VISIT BARBADOS FOR CREF CONFERENCE

The Caribbean Regional Energy Forum (CREF), which takes place from October 12 – 14, 2011, will be a convention among the foremost exemplars in the field of energy research and development in this hemisphere.  The conference comes at the time when the region’s leaders continue to grapple with questions of how to fund clean energy sources and reduce the dependence on fossil fuels.

Among the keynote speakers will be Mr. Don Roberts, one of the senior leaders of CIBC, the parent company of CIBC FirstCaribbean International Bank.  Mr. Roberts, Vice-Chairman of Wholesale Banking and Managing Director in Investment Banking with CIBC World Markets Inc., was chosen this year by Corporate Knights Magazine, a leading resource on clean capitalism, as the individual within the financial services sector who contributed the most to sustainability and clean capitalism in Canada.

With his pioneering expertise on sustainable energy financing, he is expected to make a substantial contribution to the panel discussion on ‘Driving Capital to Private Sector Projects’ on October 13, 2011 at Hilton Barbados.

Mr. Roberts’ responsibility with CIBC spans corporate lending, debt and equity financing and M&A advisory, as well as trading activities across the Renewable Energy & Clean Technology sectors.

In addition to his duties at CIBC, he is an adjunct professor in the Department of Forest Resource Management at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver; a member of the Board of Directors, Rights and Resources Institute, Washington, D.C.; and serves in an advisory capacity for a range of government, industry, and NGO groups.  He is also a certified Board Director with the Institute of Corporate Directors.

Mr. Roberts holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Agricultural Economics from the University of British Columbia, a Master’s degree in Forestry Economics from the University of California at Berkeley, and both has completed both an MBA and doctoral studies in International Finance and Economics from the University of Chicago.
