CEIS together with CREDP/GTZ hosted a Teachers Training workshop in Energy – May 29 -30, 2009 in Grenada.

A Workshop titled “Training Transfer of Energy Information to teachers of Energy in CXC/CAPE Examinations and Teacher Training Colleges” is set to be held in Grenada from May 29 to 30 at the Conference Room at the National Stadium.

The workshop will feature a look at the global, regional and local perspectives as they relate to energy as well as technical presentations on Energy efficiency and energy conservation, Alternative sources of Energy and Environmental issues linked to energy. Information on how information on the topic can be gathered for use in the classroom will also be covered.

Science and Geography teachers from Public as well as Private Schools in Grenada involved with CSEC/CAPE as well as from the Teacher Training College are expected to be in attendance.

The objective of the Workshop is to seek to transfer energy information to these teachers on current worldwide and regional energy developments as well as resources and technology. In turn, it is expected that this information will be passed on to the students they teach. Various aspects of Energy are included in the CSEC/CAPE syllabuses.

Similar workshops have already been conducted in Barbados, Guyana, Jamaica, St Kitts/Nevis, St Vincent and the Grenadines and Trinidad and Tobago.

The Caribbean Energy Information System (CEIS) is headquartered in Kingston Jamaica at the Scientific Research Council (SRC). Its membership comprises eighteen (18) Caribbean countries of which Grenada is one. Its role is to facilitate the exchange of energy information among Caribbean countries.

GTZ/CREDP is the German component of the Caribbean Renewable Energy Development program (CREDP) – a joint funded regional project headquartered at the CARICOM Secretariat in Guyana with the GTZ component offices in St Lucia.

The Workshop is being coordinated by the Energy Unit of the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Education in Grenada.
