In the face of rising oil prices, geopolitical tensions, environmental, climate change and energy sustainability concerns, member states within the Caribbean region, have developed, or are in the process of developing, energy policies with the objective of formulating a roadmap designed to improve the respective energy sectors and also to reduce their vulnerability to external factors.

As an organization comprised of regional electric utility companies, Independent Power producers, manufactures, suppliers; CARILEC realizes that it has a significant role to play in the development of the region’s power sector given the importance of the sector to the growth and development of a nation. It is with this in mind that CARILEC sees it fit to host its first ever forum dedicated solely to renewable energy (RE). The forum is part of the broad strategy of the Association, which aims to explore the future of renewable and alternative energy so as to meet the regions’ future needs and achieve sustainable development. CARILEC recognizes that renewable energy can contribute significantly to the sustainable development of the region’s energy landscape; however this development will only be successfully fostered through an integrative, collaborative and dynamic strategy and action plan.

Objectives and Outcomes

The forum will provide a platform for energy leaders and experts to exchange views on emerging regional and global issues related to energy policies, programmes, technologies and investment opportunities. There are unknowns in what we can obtain for our energy future.  Applied research can illuminate our understanding and will serve as a platform to inform future policies and adopt best practices by major energy stakeholders. The forum will provide the opportunity to learn about what is being done in the region; it will also identify what is required to take us to the next level and help chart a roadmap to achieving national policies and targets.

Who Should Attend

This forum is ultimately a call to action for electric utilities, financiers, researchers,  energy  leaders, officials, planners and energy experts from government and private sectors, international organizations and academia to come together to develop one common strategy, one common purpose, one common action plan as we move towards regional energy security and sustainability.
