Carbon Workshop CARILEC-UWI: The role of CDM for the development of EE projects in the Caribbean

As part of its Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy project: Capacity Building and Training Programme, the Caribbean Electric Utility Corporation (CARILEC) hosted a workshop at the Department of Physics, University of the West Indies, Mona, Campus from March 21 to 22, 2012. Some thirty (30) participants from NGO’s, Utilities, as well as government officials from the finance, environment, agriculture, mining and energy sectors were in attendance.


The aim of the workshop was to show how the CDM, Programmatic CPN and Voluntary Market mechanisms can be used to develop energy efficiency projects in the Caribbean region. The workshop looked at the CDM mechanism, its project cycle, barriers to use, the various parties involved in the mechanism, approval requirements as well as costs.
