Barbados to launch energy smart fund

The Barbados government is set to create another initiative aimed at promoting energy efficiency in the country next week.

The Sustainable Energy Investment Programme or Energy Smart Fund will be officially launched by Prime Minister Freundel Stuart next Monday.

In addition, senior technical officer of the Energy and Telecommunications Division, William Hinds, will give an overview of government’s renewable energy programme; project manager, Keisha Reid, will examine the Sustainable Energy Investment Programme; while financial controller at the Enterprise Growth Fund Ltd, Ferdinand Straughn will look at the eligibility requirements and application process for the Energy Smart Fund.

The US$10 million project is being designed in collaboration with the Enterprise Growth Fund Ltd. It will provide financial and technical support to renewable energy and energy efficient projects in Barbados. Funding was provided by the Inter-American Development Bank.
