Description: High temperature geothermal resources can be used for electricity production. There are a number of energy conversion technologies, which use the geothermal resource. These include dry steam, flash steam and binary cycle systems. Geothermal electricity can be used for base load power, as well as for peak load demand as required. In many parts of the world, geothermal electricity is competitive with conventional energy sources.


•  Binary Power Plants: Binary power plants transfer the heat of the geothermal fluid to a separate “working” fluid, which boils to vapour and is directed into a turbine for power production. Binary plants convert medium-temperature resources into electricity more efficiently than other technologies.
•    Dry Steam Power Plants: Dry steam is an excellent resource that can be fed directly into a turbine for power production.
•  Flash Steam Power Plants: Most high temperature geothermal resources are in the form of pressurized water. Flash steam plants “flash” most of this water to steam; the remaining mineral-rich water is re-injected into the reservoir.
