Ancon Hotel to Use Solar Energy in Cuba

Trinidad´s Ancon Hotel to Use Solar Energy

A solar heating system, with significant contribution to saving energy carriers, is currently under assembly at the Club Amigo Hotel Ancon, located 15 miles from Trinidad, UNESCO’s World Cultural heritage site, in the Cuban central province of Sancti Spiritus.

The investment should become operational during the upcoming tourism season up according to Yhanes Giddel Calero, Director of the Tourism Business Enterprise (UEB) in Sancti Spiritus.

According to forecasts, the actual working of this battery, comprising 77 solar light collectors, should result in savings of about 70 percent of diesel consumed in heating water in the center, part of the Cubanacan Group.

Giddel Yhanes said to digital Escambray that the use of such resources will replace the steam boiler system, old and inefficient technology in its operation.

According to the source, the UEB and other enterprises involved are currently working in the so-called solar loop, which is to seek to connect the collectors to the pipeline network.

As part of the strategy designed by Cuban experts to significantly reduce fuel consumption, all resorts planned to be built in Sancti Spiritus will also use solar energy. Those experts estimate that 6 percent of the electricity generated annually in the country comes from water heating.

Recently, a solar heating plant with Chinese technology launched its operations in the neighboring province of Ciego de Avila, thus Cuba will save fuel, electricity and money market fund.
